Flame Test of Lithium
In a flame test, a sample is put into a flame and the resultant color is observed to provide information about the chemical composition of the sample. The assumption is that heat and energy of flame vaporize and atomize the sample to give individuals that can be exited in the flame and produce characteristic emission spectrum which can be used to decide about chemical composition of the sample. Although flame test is relatively an easy procedure to carry out, its applications are limited and it is primarily used in detection of certain metal ions. Based on similar fundamentals, techniques and apparatuses exist that are much more capable as analytic procedures. Finally, as it can be seen in the above image, lithium produces crimson red color in its flame test.
